Website
Redesign
by Scott Stephens, Co-President

Ironwood Plastics Website: Redesigned with an
international flavor! A summer intern from Ulm, Germany
recently overhauled our website. Using the latest in content
management software, the new design allows us to quickly and
easily change content on the fly.
From the lively metropolis of Ulm, Germany,
Jens Kolb, spent his summer with us in Ironwood, Michigan.
Recently graduating with the equivalent of a Master's Degree
in Computer Science, Jens technological skills were tested in
a variety ways. Most noticeable to our customers, is his work
on our website.
Jens was with us from June 1 - August 30, 2007.
He came to Ironwood as a result of mutual friends with Scott
Stephens, one of Ironwood's owners. In the meantime, young
Spenser Stephens, Scott's son, is working at a metal stamping
facility owned and operated by Jens' uncle in Bavaria.
This gives both young men a chance to experience a new
culture and perfect their language skills. Jens has enjoyed the
area's wildlife. Deer were a common site and he also formed a
personal relationship with a neighborhood
skunk!
We think Jens did a great job on the website - we hope
you agree!

Staying
In Shape at IWP
by Theresa
Turula, Human Resources Coordinator

Recently, nine employees of IWP
participated in the Paavo Nurmi Marathon inHurley, Wisconsin. The Paavo, named
after a Finnish Olympic marathoner, is the oldest race in
Wisconsin. The 39th annual
race was held on a hot August day on a hilly course known as
the toughest course around.
Aside from the love of running and
getting in shape, the IWP employees had ulterior motives for
running…..MONEY. Like everyone, we've experienced increasing
health costs. For many reasons, we want to support and
encourage our employees to maintain a healthy lifestyle. With
our Wellness program, employees can earn up to $700 per year
by the following means:
-
First, they can participate in Health
Screening. This consists of checks for cholesterol,
triglycerides, body fat and blood
pressure.
-
A family can earn $200 by not
smoking.
-
The
final payout of $500 can be earned in
one of several ways by accumulating points in running or
bike races, gym memberships and exercise
classes.
In 2007, 17 out of
225 employees earned the $500 level, while another 88 earned
$200 for remaining tobacco free. These numbers have risen over
the last three years as we continue to put emphasis on
wellness.
Incidentally, not
all nine of the people in the photo are crazy enough to run
the entire marathon. Jim Baker competed the entire 26.2 miles,
while Mark
Stephens
and Jim
Pawlak
teamed up to split the race. The other six guys (Justin Soffa,
Randy
Ahnen,
Andy
Balduc, Doug
Palmeter, Don
Jokela and Mark
Manzanares) were all part of 5-man relay
teams. |
