ISO 9001:2000 Certification Received           by: Mark Stephens, Vice President

Ironwood Plastics was recently recommended for certification by BSI to the ISO 9001:2000 standard. Since 1998, our facilities have carried QS-9000 certifications, but the impending obsolescence of the QS-9000 standard forced some changes. Ironwood’s Corporate Quality Systems Manager, Terry Mann, reports the audit went very well. “I have only been with Ironwood Plastics since September of 2005 and my first project was to obtain this certification. I worked with Cheryl Suliin in Ironwood, Lynn Caruso-Stueck in Two Rivers and many others to make this happen,” reports Terry. In addition to running his own consulting firm, Terry formerly held a key quality position at Intel and remains a frequent guest speaker in the Engineering Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison . “The Ironwood staff helped make this process move forward smoothly,” Terry continues, “we had the basics in place and it was a natural transition to the ISO standard. Now we can begin the path to TS16949. I would expect to see that certification by the end of 2007.”

ARBURG ELECTRIC PRESSES HEADED TO TWO RIVERS

by: Rob Stephens, Vice President

Two Arburg electric presses will enter service in our Two Rivers Division in early March. The two 110 Ton machines will replace two older machines as the company-wide machine total remains at 48. The machines come with 0.7 and 2.0 oz barrels, well suited for smaller shot sizes. Accuracy and speed are the two big reasons for the electrics. At a $25,000 price premium over hydraulic equivalents, they will be called on to produce. The machines have several features integrated directly with the controller: RJG cavity pressure monitoring, water temperature, conveyors and part diverters. With the type of high tolerance parts we produce, we must look at ways to continually improve our efficiency, set up time and accuracy of parts. For specific applications, the electric machines give us another tool to use to better service our customers needs.
